Abstract

IRC Cookies provide a mechanism for service providers on IRC [RFC1459] to store small pieces of data ('cookies') on their clients, in a manner similar to the HTTP protocol [RFC2965]. The aim of IRC cookies is to facilitate automatic identification of clients to service providers, in a way that is agnostic to the implementation of the specific service provider's authentication methods.

Concept

Something similar to HTTP cookies for use on IRC. To enable clients to persist information at the request of bots, and [automatically] return it in a secure manner. This would enable authentication information (among other things) to be persisted across both client sessions (the bot losing sight of the user) and bot sessions (the bot restarting), in a manner transparent to the user, if implemented correctly.
